Things I Don't Understand...

Why do bike-riders in St. Matthews feel the need to ride their bikes down the middle of busy streets, such as Canons Lane, at rush hour?

Welcome Baby Carson :)

On the Way Home

We are on our way to the airport and I'm currently crammed between 3 suitcases, one of which is laying on my left arm and about to be in my lap. I have had a great trip but am looking forward to coming home. For those of you who have missed me so ;) I will be arriving in about 20 hours (It is 10:30 here, 4:30 there). Can't wait!

Hawaii...Day 6

It is, yet again, another bright, sunny day in Hawaii! Mom, Dad myself and Ann (their friend) went to the restaurant tis morning and ate breakfast. My favorite thing about breakfast buffets in Hawaii is that they always have white steamed rice and soy sauce....one of my faves :)

After that I worked on my tan some more (backside today) and finished the book I had been reading...Picture Perfect by my favorite author, Jodi Picoult. All of her books are great. If you haven't read of them, you should.

Hawaii...Day 5

This afternoon me, Dad and Ann tried snorkeling on the beach down the hill in front of the resort. Two things I am not a fan of are the ocean and fish (unless it's fried and I'm eating it). You can imagine I was not looking forward to this adventure.

Once I finally got my fins on and waddled out into the water, which was freezing, I swam out only to find murky water and about 3 gray fish. We swam around for about 15 or 20 minutes and finally decided to give it up. I called it a day (in the sun, that is) went in and cleaned up and we all had dinner at the restaurant in the resort.

Sun @ Last!!

Finally today, I got the sun I have been waiting for. After yesterday and looking at the forecasts for the rest of the week, I was beginnging to think I'd have to come home white. The sun has been bright and shining today, so I was able to lay out for a few hours this morning by the awesome pool here and work on my tan. I can't possibly come home from a week in Hawaii without one :)

**Mosquito Update**: Mom and Dad bought some bug spray and itch relief cream, so the bites are less itchy and there hopefully won't be any more added to the collection. I could deal much better if it weren't for the ones on the bottom of my feet and the palms of my hands.

Mutant Mosquitoes

One of the downfalls of staying on the north shore of the island are the mosquitoes. This side of the island tends to be a little more rainy, therefore you have mosquitoes...lots of them. I have about 6 big bites on each leg and they are driving me CRAZY.

This morning when I was taking a bath, I looked up and saw a HUGE one flying over. I grabbed the first thing I could get to, which happened to be the rubber mat for the bathtub and slammed it against the wall. I couldn't imagine the size of the bite...

My OWN Room!

We ended up with 5 free days where we're staying that could only be reserved 15 days ahead of time, so we had to use them for an extra room during the time we already had reserved. After much convincing (yeah right...) they finally talked me into taking the extra room all to myself. Bad deal, huh? :) It's a one bedroom unit with a studio kitchen, living room, two full bathrooms (I KNOW!) and the master bedroom even has a refrigerator in it! Needless to say...I am LOVING my vacation right now!

Hawaii...Day 3

We started out the morning with breakfast at the hotel in the "Happy Talk Lounge." It's pretty much a sales presentation. Dad won a 2 for 1 ATV tour which I was not at all excited about, but luckily someone wanted to trade and we ended up with a 2 for 1 helicopter ride. I discovered two things...roosters have no fear of people, and my dad should not be allowed to dress himself (see below). Birkenstocks with socks still are not, and never were as far as I'm concerned, a fashion trend.

After the presentation, we went to church at Lihue Baptist Church about 30 minutes away. Mom and Dad's friends know the pastor and his wife from Marietta, GA, where they are from. It's a very small church - they usually have about 50 or so in attendance. It's located in what I guess is considered the capital of Kauai, just near the airport and right across the street from Wal-Mart :)

New Title Picture

Incase anyone was wondering, the picture above is from last year. I was on Anini Beach just up the road from where I am staying now. I was writing "Hawaii 2005" in the sand to have for the beginning of my photo album. I think it took me about 10 tries to get the shot that I wanted. I remember being a little irritated that my Dad was taking pictures of me bent over trying to write in the sand with a stick that was too short, but I guess it did end up making a nice picture. I thought since I was currently posting about Hawaii, now was as good a time as any to put that picture to use. Hope everyone is enjoying the pictures and info about my trip!

Hawaii @ Sunset

I said I wouldn't post anymore until tomorrow, but I wanted to put up a few more pictures of our view from the deck, especially at sunset. What you see is Bali Hai, and the water surrounding it is Hanalei Bay. Apparently (according to my Dad, the old movie buff) if you've ever seen South Pacific then you've seen these mountains. I'm assuming there aren't a lot of you who have, so that was a piece of useless information. Oh well...
